EPL supports non-profit organisations through our Outreach programme.
UIS Organic Laboratory and UIS Sediba Laboratory merged on June 1, 2022, to form the Environmental Pollution Laboratory (EPL), combining technical expertise with a strengthened market position. Operating from an accredited SANAS facility in Irene, the newly formed entity retains the same management and commitment to high-quality service.
FROM UIS ORGANIC TO ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION LABORATORY
In 2010, the laboratory relocated to Route 21 Corporate Park, Irene. Our new premises and the addition of automated state-of-the-art analytical equipment allowed us to increase our capabilities and productivity while still providing high quality results. Furthermore, the new premises and increased capabilities created an excellent working environment for our analytical scientists to flourish.
We are pleased to announce that UIS Organic Laboratory (UISOL) and UIS Sediba Laboratory (UISSL) have officially merged on the 1st of June 2022. The newly merged company is now known as ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION LABORATORY (EPL) and will trade like that going forward. The merger has strengthened our market position and expanded our technical scope with greater efficiency.
As the management structure and technical expertise have remained the same, we can offer the same high level of service, dedication and commitment to quality as before from our accredited SANAS laboratory.

About Our World-Class Facility
Committed to remaining at the forefront of scientific technology, our accredited SANAS laboratory is equipped with the latest analytical instrumentation that consistently yields accurate, reliable and verifiable results. Highly advanced gas chromatographs and mass spectrometers enable us to achieve low levels of quantification when analysing trace level contaminants. Most of our systems and in-house developed methods are extensively automated, providing the fastest turn-around times in the market.

Trusted practices and procedures have been implemented throughout the company in alignment with global advancements and proven methodologies. We adhere to a strict quality management system outlined in ISO/IEC 17025:2017 guide, and our laboratory is routinely assessed by the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS). Furthermore, we regularly participate in independent proficiency testing schemes to evaluate the quality of results, robustness of our methods and integration of our quality management system. By using only internationally accredited and traceable calibration standards, we ensure that our results are always accurate, reliable and verifiable.

Our History
UIS Organic Laboratory
UIS Organic Laboratory was formed in 2007 and specialised in Petroleum Contamination analyses using the latest analytical instruments, including advanced gas spectrometers. Some of our tests include Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons, Pesticides, Polychlorinated Biphenyls, Phenols, Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons and water quality tests. In 2022 UIS Organic Laboratory merged with UIS Sediba Laboratory to form the Environmental Pollution Laboratory.
UIS Sediba Laboratory
UIS Sediba Laboratory (Pty) Ltd was formed in 2012. The laboratory first commenced its operations in April 2012, specialising in the determination of VOCs in Green Building Materials. The laboratory specialised in the measurement of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) that relate to the Indoor Environment Quality. VOCs can be present as a result of hazardous building materials or other chemicals used in the building. The most significant source of formaldehyde is, for example, wood products for cabinetry, furniture and sub-flooring.
In 2022, UIS Sediba Laboratory and UIS Organic Laboratory joined forces to establish Environmental Pollution Laboratory (EPL), expanding our expertise and strengthening our environmental testing capabilities.
